well happy birthday to me.
Nick took me out to the bars last night, since I turned 21, and the first one rejected my ID on the account it was "probably fake" and I look so young. They asked for two forms of identification? So he took me to two other places and they accepted me. Thank god, I was going to throw a fit.
I'm supposed to be getting ready now; Greg's taking me to dessert in the North End. Also, Mary-Kate and Ashley party today!

I cannot believe it's snowing right now.
Last night was so sketch, and there are more Halloween parties tonight. Oh and I dressed up as Mary-Kate and Kayla persuadereality was Ashley. Our costumes were put together in five seconds: I just wore baggy clothes with big sunglasses, a newsboy cap, and a ton of accessories; Kayla just dressed up in a skirt and heels. We're both 5' so that's probably the one thing we had going for us, hahah. I need to work on my case briefs for Law class right now. :/

ehh.. Blink's Greatest Hits. Blink-182 will release a greatest hits collection on November 1st. The trio, which is currently on indefinite hiatus, will include a previously unreleased track called "Another Girl, Another Planet" on the 16-song compilation. Other tunes slated for the set are such radio staples as "Dammit," "All The Small Things," "First Date" and "Stay Together For The Kids."
My lj name is taken from a line in The Only Ones' "Another Girl, Another Planet", which apparently Blink-182 are now covering. I don't dislike Blink-182 at all, but I really don't want to look like the kind of person who names her livejournal after a Blink-182 song. Whatever, I dig the song a lot, and maybe they'll do a good job on it?

I am so over hearing people discuss the virtues of the internet, blogging, et al. I just got done listening to an (unfortunate) interview with Death Cab for Cutie where they philosophized about the internet. I cringe everytime over how uninteresting the whole topic really is. Also, DCFC performed in studio and the only song I really liked turned out to be a Teenage Fanclub cover, go figure. I must point out that their single "soul meets body" is pretty damn horrific.
Anyway, I went shopping the other day. I decided to get a new pair of jeans, and since Gap is usually pretty reliable I started there. My god, they replaced all of their fantastic jeans with some pretty hideous designs that supposedly "flatter" your shape. The waistbands are double thickness (why?) and the colours ranged from purple to primary-colour blue. I stumbled upon a charcoal pair that fit me really well, and I went up to the register to purchase them, only to find out that they were a special pair of $95 pants, not $40 like the jeans in the rest of the store. But since I'm super adorable, they went ahead and sold them to me for $40. Awesome.
Tomorrow is my last day of work! Thursday is Pearl Jam. Saturday is 8 hours of hell flying to Boston. I think I'm staying somewhere near the Copley T.

Sigur Ros "Hopp'polla"/ The Rosebuds "The Lover's Rights" |
] |
fool_intherain and I are going to see Bright Eyes in New Jersey during Thanksgiving break. As it turns out, I'm not coming back to Washington for Thanksgiving. Feist is opening.
bowandarrow and I saw the Saddle Creek movie last night. It was shown in a swanky dinner-and-date-and-jazz type place. When we got in, they asked us if we had reservations! It was just unusual to see a movie there; I felt kinda sloppy coming in there. The movie was entertaining. I'm going to get the DVD for the extras. There's really no point in my owning movie dvds, but music ones I definitely watch again and again. The main bands featured in the movie were naturally Bright Eyes, the Faint, and Cursive, which was actually fitting and preferable to me. The interviews were primarily with those bands, and then a couple other actually connected people, which was good. They spent like 2 minutes on Rilo Kiley so if your only love is Jenny Lewis (ahem, evolutionofjake) I don't recommend it. The dude in the Faint with the mullet, oh my.
I'm moving back to Boston in less than two weeks!
And I think I really like the Rosebuds. See, I like something.

I wish I still had the office with the bed in it, so I could take a nap now.
I went to a Mono in VCF show with Doug the other day (he works with the band, and I used to party with them, blah blah blah). They're getting soooo good, and when I get fast internet (in a couple weeks!!), I'm going to send their EP to everyone. They're very Echo and the Bunnymen esque. I get so excited when I hear them on the radio.
Anyway, speaking of Doug, I believe he's dating the stripper (from a few posts ago) now. And I'm remembering a quote from her at the party. She was talking about how she strips to Modest Mouse because they're her all-time favourite band and I was like, oh it's cool they don't make you dance to like Van Halen and shit. And she goes um who? and I'm like uhhh Van Halen, you know 'jump'? (and ofcourse here is where I unfortunately sang a few bars). And she's like oh well I don't listen to the radio. I'm still baffled by this!!
I'm working on a mix, let's see if I actually complete this one. Now about that nap...
PS: I think I hate Sufjan Stevens, and I know I hate Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. I want to punch that guy so bad. PSS: I went to pick up my paycheck at jamba today at 6:30 because I THOUGHT my former boss wouldn't be there because he usually wasn't when I worked early. Anyway, he was there, and I hate awkward shit like that. He was also nosy as hell and was like "oh why are you dressed up all fancy". Ugh I hate people.

I saw persuadereality briefly last night; it would have been cool to hang out more but oh well.
Anyway, on to the party I went to last night at Doug's apartment. I met a stripper named Reagan ("you can call me Carter or Kennedy, I answer to any President's name") who immediately proclaimed "OMG let me do your hair!" So I let her. and we chatted. and she was pretty cool. She told me her life story, including stuff about being shoved in lockers in highschool (I can't help it: my immediate reaction was to LOL before I put on my sympathy face), and just other stuff. She seemed pretty broken, but I liked her. We talked about books and music. There was this boy there who told me that I was "emo" because I "liked Maroon 5". umm. Maroon 5 aren't emo. I never said I liked Maroon 5, nor did I mention their name. And I never talked to the kid during the entire party until that moment. When I was perplexed at his announcement of my emo-ness, he was like "but you like Yellowcard!" Oh I sure don't. I asked him what he liked, and he said "oh everything. Bone Thugz, Green Day". Oh who else? "Bone Thugz n Harmony". I think he said Bone Thugz a few dozen times. He was drunk, but I imagine he'd suck sober too. He then added that I didn't look that emo that I actually looked "pretty normal". In trying to figure out where the hell he got Maroon 5 and Yellowcard from, the only possible conclusion I came up with is that he got me confused with Reagan, who has long blonde hair and looks absolutely nothing like me. When posing the question "who are you?" to me, thankfully, a couple people spoke up with "it's chrissie himes, she's cool" or "chrissie himes! she could kick your ass!"

[24 Jul 2005|08:45pm] |
Sooo, at my work I have my own office. It has a lovely elephant poster on the wall, as well as a bed.
Anyway, SPEND AN EVENING WITH SADDLE CREEK free dvd screening Monday, August 22 at 7pm The Triple Door 216 Union St - Downtown All Ages welcome.
"SPEND AN EVENING WITH SADDLE CREEK" the first 10 years of saddle creek records as told through interviews, home movies, rare live performances and never-before-seen archival footage with BRIGHT EYES, THE FAINT, CURSIVE, RILO KILEY and many more. This is FREE and ALL AGES. The Triple door has a full bar and restaurant.
I think I'm going to hit that up. I can stroll over right after work, and since I was going to buy the DVD anyway, it'd be nice to preview it to see if it's worth the money (as in, how much Conor footage is in it?)

I just finished reading Chuck Palahniuk's new gruesome story collection Haunted, and I know a lot of people on my friends list have read it SO I want to know what y'all thought of it. If you haven't read it, please take a couple minutes to read the first story in the collection found here: http://www.seizureandy.com/stuff/guts.html I nearly fainted reading that story, so I think Chuck succeeded. Anyway, thoughts (on this story, the rest of the book, or the book as a whole)?

Smartass You are 85% Rational, 57% Extroverted, 71% Brutal, and 85% Arrogant. | You are the Smartass! You are rational, extroverted, brutal, and arrogant. You probably consider people who are emotional and gentle to be big pussies who are obviously in lesser stature than you. You have many flaws, despite your seeming intelligence and cool-headedness. For instance, you aren't very nice. In fact, you're probably an asshole. And you are conceited and self-centered. Not only that, but you are very loud and vocal about all this, seeing as how you are extroverted. There is no better way to describe you than as a "smartass", I'm afraid. Perhaps just "ass" would do, too. But that's a little less literary and descriptive. At any rate, your main personality defect is the fact that you are self-centered, mean, uncaring, and brutally logical.
To put it less negatively:
1. You are more RATIONAL than intuitive.
2. You are more EXTROVERTED than introverted.
3. You are more BRUTAL than gentle.
4. You are more ARROGANT than humble.
Compatibility: Your exact opposite is the Emo Kid.
Other personalities you would probably get along with are the Capitalist Pig, the Braggart, and the Sociopath.
*
*
If you scored near fifty percent for a certain trait (42%-58%), you could very well go either way. For example, someone with 42% Extroversion is slightly leaning towards being an introvert, but is close enough to being an extrovert to be classified that way as well. Below is a list of the other personality types so that you can determine which other possible categories you may fill if you scored near fifty percent for certain traits.
The other personality types:
The Emo Kid: Intuitive, Introverted, Gentle, Humble.
The Starving Artist: Intuitive, Introverted, Gentle, Arrogant.
The Bitch-Slap: Intuitive, Introverted, Brutal, Humble.
The Brute: Intuitive, Introverted, Brutal, Arrogant.
The Hippie: Intuitive, Extroverted, Gentle, Humble.
The Televangelist: Intuitive, Extroverted, Gentle, Arrogant.
The Schoolyard Bully: Intuitive, Extroverted, Brutal, Humble.
The Class Clown: Intuitive, Extroverted, Brutal, Arrogant.
The Robot: Rational, Introverted, Gentle, Humble.
The Haughty Intellectual: Rational, Introverted, Gentle, Arrogant.
The Spiteful Loner: Rational, Introverted, Brutal, Humble.
The Sociopath: Rational, Introverted, Brutal, Arrogant.
The Hand-Raiser: Rational, Extroverted, Gentle, Humble.
The Braggart: Rational, Extroverted, Gentle, Arrogant.
The Capitalist Pig: Rational, Extroverted, Brutal, Humble.
The Smartass: Rational, Extroverted, Brutal, Arrogant. | |
My test tracked 4 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender: | You scored higher than 75% on Rationality | | You scored higher than 59% on Extroversion | | You scored higher than 87% on Brutality | | You scored higher than 94% on Arrogance |

stephen malkmus face the truth |
] |
Stephen Malkmus Today, I went with my mom and my friend Chris to see Stephen Malkmus (of Pavement) perform at Sonic Boom Records in Capitol Hill. The show was advertised as "a rare acoustic performance", which is a total lie, because (1) he has a tour coming up so his appearance sure wasn't rare, and (2) his guitar was plugged in. He was accompanied by two Jicks: Mike Clark and Joanna Bolme. Stephen was dressed kind of college professor-ish; he looked super adorable. When Sonic Boom puts up the photos from the performance, I'll post them, but for now here's a visual to refresh your memories:
As you can see, his hair is really indie.
Anyhow, regarding the performance. It was pretty subdued, not as bizarre as I anticipated. Between song banter I recall is him playing a few bars from Slint, and something about how "mama" "ball" and "dada" are presumably your first words, and how he got lost on the one-way streets in Seattle.
He only played new songs, I recall the setlist in this order: 1. Freeze the Saints 2. No More Shoes 3. Malediction 4. Mama 5. It Kills 6. A song that didn't make Face the Truth
After the set, Chris and I got our cds autographed. I said hello and handed my cd cover to Stephen and his Jicks, and Stephen just stared at me. Total super awkwardness, I don't quite get what was up? So I complimented his performance and told him my name, so he wrote my name on the booklet and then awkwardly stood there for a second, and then was like "ready go!" and they all signed it at the same time.
I think I would have been disappointed though if he wasn't socially awkward.
Oh also Chris made me a super-indie mix, here's the tracklisting: 1. Supersystem "Born into the World" 2. Moving Units "Between Us and Them" 3. The Russian Futurists "Still Life" 4. The Go! Team "Get it Together" 5. !!! "Pardon my Freedom" 6. Out Hud "It's For You" 7. Controller.Controller "History" 8. M.I.A. "Galang" 9. The Album Leaf "Brennivin" 10. The Books "Be Good to Them Always" 11. Fog "We're Winning" 12. Prefuse 73 "Morale Crusher (ft Beans)" 13. Hood "The Lost You" 14. Man Man "Gold Teeth"
Next Sunday, I may be going to Sonic Boom in Ballard to see Architecture in Helsinki.
